Mother Lottie (90+) and her daughter Carla Geurts (50+) are also participating in this tournament.
Lottie: “We see each other every week, thanks in part to swimming. The nice thing about a tournament like this is that you can talk to each other all day long. Cheering each other on is also great fun, of course. I did that yesterday morning during the 800m freestyle, for example. She had a thrilling race with our teammate Liselotte Joling. It was great that Carla won. It’s also great that we enjoy swimming separately and can share that love together.”
Carla: ‘I completely agree. We chat all day long and always have something to say to each other. At the end of the tournament, I’m completely caught up. Seeing my mother swim is very inspiring. I hope to be able to do the same at that age. I know how much I enjoy swimming myself and I see that in her too. I wish everyone could experience that joy.’

Another fun fact: Lottie Geurts, aged 90+, was the oldest participant this weekend. Ruben Trompetter will turn 20 on 31 December, making him the youngest Master at this ONMK.

The KNZB Masters Swimming Task Force would like to thank all swimmers, fans, livestream viewers, officials, organisers and volunteers of MZ&PC Maastricht for this fantastic tournament!
