At the ODMC, everything is “talked through” by two speakers, André van Buiten and Tamara Sloothaak. We are curious about their experiences as speakers at the ONMKs:

Tamara Sloothaak: “Commentating at an ODMC is a real treat! For me, it feels like a family reunion, as you see each other once every six months, it’s great fun and you catch up. There are so many inspiring stories. As a speaker, you are the linchpin of the competition, you feel the atmosphere of the day and you have the influence to name the achievement of each result. It’s really great fun to do!”

André van Buiten: “The nice thing about being an announcer at the ODMC is that you can give free rein to your creativity, provide lots of background information and, perhaps because of my work, I try to pronounce everything correctly in all languages. I think it’s important to pronounce everyone’s name correctly, but also to be able to make announcements in all languages. When I was asked to be the announcer at these competitions, in addition to being part of the KNZB announcer team, like Tamara, for example, it was not only because of my experience, but also because of my own swimming history and my volunteer work as an official. I try to provide that background information here as well. It’s great that people appreciate that!”

In conversation with Yvonne Bruls 35+ from MZ&PC in her role as master swimmer and organiser.
“I really enjoy the combination of swimming and organising as a club. You know that everyone here enjoys coming, and that makes it fun for us as an organisation to organise it. Partly because there are so many of us doing it, but also because you experience the tournament in a completely different way behind the scenes and during the preparations.
Although it may be tougher than usual this weekend, I am already very satisfied with my own swimming. The 100 backstroke on Friday morning was my best time of the season, so in that respect, this tournament has already been a success!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who volunteered to help organise this tournament. Both from MZ&PC, but also the officials and everyone else involved. Without them, it would not have been such a great tournament!”
