Impressive performance at ODMC 2024 sc in The Hague

The Open Dutch Masters Short Course Championships (November 21st  to 24th 2024) in Het Hofbad in The Hague, organized by WVZ in collaboration with the Taskforce Masters Swimming from the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (RDSF), has once again delivered impressive performances and records.
During the four-day tournament, 1,040 Masters swimmers smashed their own limits and those of each other. With 80 Foreign National Masters Records, 61 Dutch Masters Records, 3 European Masters Records and 1 World Masters Record, it was a celebration for participants and the public.

European Masters Records on the first day
Frederik Hendrik de Bruijn (H85+) stole the show on the first day at the 1500m for men with two European Masters Records, on the 800m in 14.13.24 (split time) and 1500m in 26.45.40. His enthusiasm is contagious: “I can go even faster, this makes me want more!”

Fun and connection
A special moment was the farewell of Loekie van Huissteden from the RDSF Taskforce Masters Swimming. She received a Silver Pin, an honourable award for her years of dedication to masters swimming, from RDSF board member Ronald van Ombergen. She spoke about the fun and connection that masters swimming offers. “It is perhaps more important that you do not have to stop swimming given your age, everyone can continue to train at their own level, swim in competitions and, above all, have a fun weekend!”

“A great weekend that I can recommend to everyone!”
Miquel Monros Coma, swimmer with the Luxembourg Sharks (H35+), had a great debut at the ODMC. “The organization is top, the competitions start on time and the swimming pool is ideal for fast times,” he says. “The social aspect makes this tournament really special, and I recommend it to everyone!” A total of 155 associations from 11 countries participated in the ODMC.

Tension until the last session
The tournament had a resounding conclusion on Sunday. Thomas Verhoeven (H25+) set a World Masters Record in the 50m butterfly in 22.95. The 4x50m freestyle relay closed the tournament in style.

Congratulations to all the Masters who achieved personal success this competition!

The RDSF Taskforce Masters Swimming thanks officials, volunteers and WVZ for the organization of this successful ODMC short course.
