Session 6

This morning, the women’s 800m freestyle was on the programme.
Conny Boer-Buys (W75+) once again started the day strongly, setting a new World Masters Record with a time of 12:57.48. The previous record had been held by Jane Asher since 2006.

*”During the warm-up for the 800 free I felt good, but during the race itself, it didn’t feel great at all. I had hoped to swim under 14:59, which is the Dutch Masters Record. During the race I was swimming 1:39 per 100 metres, but in the final lap I managed to pick up the pace to 1:33, thanks in part to the great support from the sidelines!

Although I was still tired a few hours later, I look back on a good tournament!
During the ONMK short course in Rotterdam in 2020, I had to withdraw after the second day due to a cold. A few weeks later, it turned out I had pneumonia, and much later it was diagnosed as long Covid. In recent years, I have not been able to swim as I would have liked and had to hold back. Things went much better in The Hague last November, and again now. I hope I can maintain this upward trend.”*

Lidia van Bon-Rosenbrand (W55+) set a Dutch Masters Record in the 800m freestyle with a time of 10:57.98.

Session 7

In the photo from left to right: Paul Chaudron, Harold Matla and Henk van den Brink.

After words of thanks to the officials, organisers, and volunteers, Henk van den Brink and Paul Chaudron were inducted into the Dutch Masters Hall of Fame.

Henk van den Brink
Henk is a starter through and through. He officiates at numerous competitions each year, from (very young) youth events to major meets and, frequently, Masters competitions.
He is also a water polo referee. On one occasion, after a Masters meet, there was a shortage of referees for a water polo match, and Henk spontaneously offered to step in.
Henk is always up for a chat, and many Masters and officials take advantage of this; he adds a lively atmosphere around the pool.
At the start, Henk has a recognisable style and consistently ensures swimmers get a good start to their race.

Paul Chaudron
Paul Chaudron is one of the officials who has made a significant contribution to the development of Masters swimming.
He has officiated as a referee at many Masters competitions, including most of the ODMC events this century.
In addition, he has served for decades on the Officials & Regulations Committee, where he actively contributes to the interpretation and implementation of the Masters rules.
At the ODMC’s, he is an invaluable sparring partner, offering advice on organisational matters related to officials, drawing on his extensive experience.
At his home club, he is also actively involved with the Masters group and in organising Masters competitions in Leiden.

The final session, on Sunday afternoon, began with the 200m backstroke.
